This project recreates the visual style of a 1970s Kit Kat advertisement through kinetic typography and motion design. Using an authentic Kit Kat jingle from the era, the animation translates the energy and rhythm of the audio into a dynamic typographic experience. The design incorporates period-accurate typefaces, graphic elements, color palettes, and aging effects to reflect the look of television advertising during the decade. By combining historical research with animation, the piece captures the playful and recognizable character of the Kit Kat brand while remaining faithful to the visual language of the time.
Neue Kabel was chosen for its strong connection to the visual style of the 1970s. Its bold, geometric forms and playful character complement the upbeat tone of the Kit Kat jingle while helping establish the retro aesthetic of the advertisement.

Kit Kat seventies
typographic ad

In order to maintain the authentic feel of the video I wanted to make sure that I used the correct version of the kitKat packaging. After a deep dive into the history of KitKat packaging this Image is the closest I could find to what the packaging actually looked like in the 70s. However, the original version of this image was from a post to a "growing up in the 70s" Facebook thread. The original image was incredibly poor in quality. To salvage it, I ran the original image through the AI platform, whisk. Through Whisk I was able to enhance the image to HD quality and the result is what you see here.
